Dr. Patrick Fan
Founded in August 2012, Nanyang Ventures Pte Ltd offers comprehensive and integrated advisory and management services relating to property, assets and investments, as well as other property related services. Its aim is to build an organisation that will create more business and investment opportunities between Singapore and China.
As the founder of Nanyang Ventures, Dr Patrick Fan oversees all of the company’s activities in the Asia Pacific, which consist of bringing investors over and convincing them to invest in Singapore. Dr. Fan brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously worked in similar industries. Some of his notable positions include serving as Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CITIC Carbon Assets Management, as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Investment Committee Member of F&H Fund Management, a leading private equity firm.
While working in his previous roles he realised that much of his clientele from China and Singapore expressed their interest in investing in their counterpart’s country. Nanyang Ventures was subsequently set up to take advantage of this opportunity by working with entrepreneurs from both countries to expand their business and increase revenue through joint ventures and other forms of cooperation.
The biggest challenge when Nanyang Ventures was first established was that of bridging the gap between the work culture and ethics of companies from both nations. Dr Fan shares that this was a step-by-step process, with each side learning from their setbacks to figure out how to adapt to each other.
Despite its nascence, being only four years old, Nanyang Ventures has made a name for itself, carving out a strong reputation in the industry. The company differentiates itself from competitors through its strong networking and customised solutions, which gives Chinese and Singaporean entrepreneurs great flexibility as well as options in investment opportunities.
As one who has held many influential positions, Dr Fan is well equipped to run the business and leverage his network for the benefit of his clients. From his previous roles of working as a staff officer to Deputy Chief Executive in several different Ministry Departments in China, he is able to establish valuable connections and secure information that helps his clients make informed decisions. These connections are highly sought after and recognised by his clients and play a large part in the appeal of the company’s services.
Dr Fan sees Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as a role model, citing his sense of responsibility to give back to society. He also looks up to Zuckerberg for his humility, thriftiness and the constant desire to learn that the Facebook founder demonstrates.
Entrepreneurship is about creating and developing something new; it is about gaining new knowledge, experiences and challenges in the process of growing as an entrepreneur and as a business. Dr Fan advises those who are interested in venturing into business to be hardworking, but also willing to learn and look out for fresh opportunities and resources.
Never quite content to rest on their laurels, Nanyang Ventures is considering venturing into new Asian markets. Over the next five years, they plan to expand into new industries such as medical and plastic surgery in hospitals. With their eye set firmly on the horizon, Nanyang Ventures seems set to take the Asia Pacific by storm, connecting clients to investments one at a time.
