Name of Recipient:
Mr. Caleb Tan
Helmed by three young men, MEGU Catering Concepts (MEGU) is a company specialising in catering services and food & beverage (F&B) consultancy.
Brothers, Caleb, Joshua and Amos, come from a family who has been involved in the food business, tracing their F&B lineage back to their late grandmother, Mrs Mary Tan. With service and food in their blood, it comes quite naturally for the three brothers to band together after completing their National Service to continue this family legacy with MEGU Catering Concepts.
Having grown up being exposed to and working in all aspects of the catering, hospitality service and events, clients of MEGU know that they are working with a food partner that loves what it does.
Being able to capitalise on the rich experience and wisdom gained by the first two generations of the Tan family, Caleb and his two brothers now augment MEGU with their youthful energies, enthusiasm and ideas. Caleb is extremely proud that the family business is now entering its third generation, recognising that they have come a long way from when his grandparents first started out selling food in a canteen.
“I believe that many people are becoming entrepreneurs because they want to carve out their own future by doing something worthwhile,” says Caleb. He says that it is also with that very sense of purpose that more people, including himself, sees entrepreneurship as a calling, as this allows the everyman the ability to shape their own lives.
The ability to handle the pressure of taking on a family business is already commendable; to continue to seek new grounds for expansion signals a new direction under a newer leadership.
Enthusiastic about promoting our cuisines on global arenas, MEGU, played food ambassador last year, creating a quintessentially Singapore cuisine experience for the Singapore Maritime Foundation in Norway.
Moving forward, Caleb plans to move MEGU’s consultancy work into one of being a food and beverage concept developer. It is currently developing menus and service provision relevant for the healthcare and hospitality industries.
‘MEGU’ – which means “Blessing” in Japanese, and in Chinese, “美果” – signifies beautiful and memorable beginning and positive outcomes for any occasion, event or project. This is what the Tan brothers want their clients to experience with every encounter with their company.
