Awarded the Singapore’s Outstanding Enterprise Award last year in 2013, KT Solution has continued along their path of success. With the company retaining their prominence in their field, accompanied by the industry’s stability, the company was awarded the Platinum Award by Canon this year, and also the Singapore’s Outstanding Enterprise Award for the second year in a row.
Looking back at their history, the success of KT Solution would not have been possible had the four founders held back on pursuing new challenges. Having prior experience in this industry in a similar document solutions company, the founders realized after a few years that the prospect of continuing their work is not as attractive as working and managing your own company, and decided to start out on their own.
Reviewing their options, the four founders decided to stay on in the same industry as they also recognized the potential the document solution industry has, as most companies have need for such technology, and therefore the demand will always exist. In addition, companies already using such solutions will definitely renew their technology from time to time, thus increasing their potential client base. With that thinking, the four founders established KT Solution in 2010, and they have not looked back since.
Breaking away from their comfort zone, which was the stability of their previous company, was not an easy task for KT Solution and the founders. Initially, they struggled to be competitive against bigger and more established competitors, and their financial situation was not the most favorable.
However, with hard work and sincerity, they began to overcome their challenges one by one. Some old clients from their previous company found out about KT Solution, and in turn, through word of mouth, more clients were brought in to the company. They also worked to build rapport with the new clients that they found after their establishment, and eventually, KT Solution developed its footing in the document solutions industry. Switching their partnership to Canon after their first year, KT Solution subsequently continued their good results, and was ranked third out of eight partners after less than a year of sales with Canon.
The last couple of years have been challenging yet fulfilling for Mr. Kwek and his partners. He mused, “There is less freedom, and more critical decision involved. I have to lead the company to take risks since I’m the leader.” Hence, Mr. Kwek thinks it is very important that an aspiring entrepreneur has the perseverance, the mental strength, and armed with knowledge of the industry that they are embarking into.
“If you really want to start your own business, you have to be prepared. Having insider knowledge is always important. At the same time, you must always remember to be graceful and grateful about what you have. And it will all be worth it in the end. Otherwise we would not be expanding.”
With every passing year of success, KT Solution shows no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of success. In the near future, they would like to focus more on their software solutions rather than simply selling their hardware products. They also hope to possess their own building sometime in the future, which will allow them to expand much further and gain more control over their working space.
With such capable leaders, and much achievements accumulated in a relatively short four years, KT Solution looks well on their way to an even more successful period in their history.
