The quality of their services is as good as the manufacturer’s standard, but at affordable prices.
Established in July 1991 by Vincent Mong and four partners, the company set up their first workshop at Havelock Road, overlooking the Singapore River. Taking inspiration from the scenery around the area, they decided upon the name Riverview. Their next relocation was at Toa Payoh Industrial Park. Riverview Auto Services subsequently moved into their current workshop at Ang Mo Kio Autopoint in 1999, with an area now big enough to service 19 vehicles at any one time.
Today, they provide a wide range of services which include diagnosis, troubleshooting, repairing, air-con servicing and insurance claim advice. The Company believes in keeping up with manufacturer’s standard and will not do any unauthorized repairs of a car that does not comply with the law.
Staying in this industry will be a long and continuous journey as technology of modern cars change very rapidly. Technicians have to continuously update their knowledge and upgrade their skills. This includes acquiring new technological knowhow and equipment from overseas to maintain a leading edge. With new makes and models of car being introduced in the market frequently, it is inevitable for them to keep up-to-date.
In order to overcome high operating expenses for running the business as Riverview rely mainly on Foreign Skill Labour, the company increases its productivity through training and investing in better equipment.
Despite all these challenges, Vincent is fiercely proud of his company which has a strong footing in the automotive industry.
Vincent believes in a strong and healthy employer–employee relationship. He is a strong advocate in delegation of responsibility, grooming them for new challenges and job satisfaction. He is fully aware that good and happy employees will translate into service excellence resulting in increased customer satisfaction.
Looking back on this journey of entrepreneurship, he identifies the factors that motivate him everyday. His love for cars is a prime motivating factor and he knows that most young people love cars too. It is this passion that keeps one highly motivated and draws further inspiration to know more. The learning never stops. It is like an endless marathon, constantly keeping fit for the competition and staying ahead of the pack.
Most importantly one must be passionate and confident in what one is selling, be it goods or services. Such display will ultimately impress any potential customer.
Though the idea of franchising had dawned upon him he is rather hesitant on this idea as he believes in personal service. It’s the quality that counts, not quantity. He does not want to stretch his resources too thinly, thus affecting his current high level of service.
