Mr. Bernard Lee
Men who are resolved to find a way for themselves will always find opportunities enough; and if they do not find them, they will make them. Men creates opportunities by asking for them. A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds.
For this intriguing case of procuring opportunities, we landed ourselves with Mr Bernard Lee. The founder of The Living Age Private Limited. It is a decade since The Living Age commenced. Mr Lee carved his opportunities under the spur of the mundane management he was working. He broke through the wall in 2000, commencing his own Interior designing firm, located at Toa Payoh hitherto. “I had ventured into other fields of designing; jewelry, furnitures, and many other areas. I find myself being substantially drawn into Interior Designing. I also took this opportunity as the Interior Designing industry is budding” replied Mr Lee, when asked on his partaking in the Interior Designing industry.
The name “The Living Age” was christened to proclaim about design at its professionalism. It was the start of the millennium, modern interior designing wasn’t rife yet. “This is the age to start living.” Mr Lee explained upon the purpose of the name. The Living Age was a one man show when it first jumpstarted. A decade later, the number has shot up appreciably, with professionally trained designers to give the best bang for the bucks, for the customers’ wishes.
The Living Age is a hot spot in the media’s eye. It has been featured in front cover of magazines and newspapers for its impeccable service quality, idiosyncratic creativity and designing style. Nevertheless, building up a business is a tough nut to crack. “I had received a card of gratitude from my very first customer for my great after-sale services and proficient designs. It shows me that in order to excel, you need to work hard for your customers” said Mr Lee, in regards to his spur, and what constitutes to being an outstanding entrepreneur. “Working smart is integral as well.”
Mr Lee learnt this lesson hard when he relocated and expanded his showroom to Rivervalley. Business was roaring. Expenses were high, more staffs has been engaged. Cash flow was stagnant. What made these contretemps worst was the bad timing. The global financial crisis had just cropped up. “Being potent in business ideologies helps a lot as well.” said Mr Lee. Inevitably, Mr Lee had to make a shift of his showroom to Toa Payoh. Fortunately, the financial crisis was winding up. Business picked up as a result.
“To be successful at running a business, he has to be hardworking, meticulous, able to control finances, capable of managing aspects of his business, and grasp hold of every opportunity in the aspects of business.” replied Mr Lee, when asked on what embodies a successful businessman. “Authenticity; being original, uphold your words, and being sincere is crucial as well.”
“I am very happy and proud to be able to get this award, it makes all our effort and hard-work be recognized. I would also like to take this chance to all the people that have supported me and The Living Age Private Limited. Our company has attained Successful Entrepreneur 2010, publications at hit news-stands, front magazines coverages, and TV spots. We will strive up for more. And to all of you guys (budding entrepreneurs) out there, you can also do it.” Mr Lee thanked sanctimoniously, full of fervor. The Living Age shall strive for more with a great opportunist like Mr Lee in the captain’s seat, who had over the years prolifically garnered and devised many opportunities to prosper.
