Grade Builder Education Centre

Name of Recipient:
Mr. Alvin Lee

Empty your mind; be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

Cutting from the same cloth, to Bruce Lee’s quote, Mr Alvin Lee’s path to success is all about flexibility. Being able to move along with flow; as upon the direction the wind blows.

Initiated in 2002, nigh the outbreak of the SARS epidemic in 2003, Grade Builder Education Centre came into realization under Mr Lee’s hands; an one man show, having to superintend every knick and knacks of the business. Eponymous to the company’s name; what it proffer is prolific educational yields. “Grade Builder isn’t just here to build grades. We strive to build upon the grade of character as well.” Mr Lee reflected viscerally. Hitherto, Grade Builder now has 2 branches, more than 30 adept staffs, maestros in the aspect of teaching, for a full gamut of the prominent Cambridge examination formats, an educational threshold in Singapore. From the GCSE O Levels, to the more advanced A Levels. Grade Builder would have the most intensive, and effective, exoteric solutions for the general public.

Capitalizing on his vast knowledge and experience in teaching, the path to success for Grade Builder seems to be unhindered at first. “I had enjoyed teaching; I had taught in schools and I enjoy it a lot.” Mr Lee elucidated. Despite the economic crisis happening at that time, business seems unaffected by such circumstances.

However, the tide turns for the worst in 2003; many pedantic students withdrew from the tuition classes due to the SARS epidemic outbreak. This caused a domino effect on Mr Lee’s business. The dearth reaps does not justify what the sows. “Operating costs started becoming tougher to maintain; due to the lack of cash flow.” Mr Lee exclaimed. Business was so bad at one point; Mr Lee could not get any customers for 6 months consecutively. “I was on the verge of giving up.”

Fortunately, Mr Lee had a unanimous group of family and friends. Having them as a pillar of support, emotionally and financially, Mr Lee was able to dispel the advent flop of Grade Builder. “They had really helped me, their devotion of time and care. Brainstorming for solutions alongside me; they really helped me and Grade Builder.”

As an upshot, business began to pick up. Mr Lee was also able to garner a group of proficient educators; boosting Grade Builder’s reputation and brand. Customers soon thronged in, after countless trial and errors. Grade Builder soon assimilated into the line of the education roaring trade.

“It’s rewarding to see as students improve over time; under our dedicated care and passionate teaching. It makes me strive for more.” Mr Lee said, with much glee. When asked what qualities should a good entrepreneur possess, Mr Lee replied: “He had to be willing to work hard. Have good preparation; doing market research so on and so forth. Being flexible, go with the flow, and certainly perseverance. I would not be here if i had given up 8 years back.”

“Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster. As said by Sun Tzu (A Chinese General by the 500 BC), knowing your current and competitors situation would help lay the seeds to success.” advocated Mr Lee, on young entrepreneurs planning to initialize their own business.

Grade Builder is planning to expand locally; with international expansions following in tag. “This would be a pro bono, we could help students who live out of reach from our current location.” Mr Lee explicated. With an eminent leader at fore, Grade Builder shall spread its wings, and soar into the skies, to hit greater limits.
