“The willingness to persevere in times of adversities is what separates the good from the extraordinary,” said Mr Teng, one of the directors of IBMS Technology Pte Ltd.
Started in year, IBMS Technology Pte Ltd is a professional system integrator for IT infrastructure in general and critical environment in particular. “We provide turnkey IT solutions for modern corporations. Our services range from installing data cabling systems to building a complete data centre/server room. In essence, we prepare the whole IT infrastructure for our clients ever escalating IT needs. .” Mr Teng summed up the operations of his company.
Explaining his background prior to this start up, Mr Teng said, “I worked for an MNC after my studies. It was a respected position with good career advancement prospects. However, I chanced upon this business opportunity during a gathering with an old friend and I supposed it was the entrepreneur in me who helped me made that daring decision.”
Explaining the decision to enter this particular industry, Mr Teng disclosed, “People were talking about intelligent homes and building at that time. So we wanted to be a part of this mega trend. The name of our business was supposed to mean Integrated Building Management System but the business lives its own life from day one and it turns out to be a professional and apt representation of what we do and represent.”
The company has come a long way from its humble beginning. Like most other SMEs, we were faced with tight cash flow, biased customers’ perception of a new company and challenging work-life balance when we first started.
“It was not easy to overcome all that,” said Mr Low, “ you work very hard, and slowly, you get more money for your operation, more talents for your business and most importantly, more time with your family.”
Teng described, “We are a valued-added system integrator in the market and not just an installer or contractor. We follow through our projects, from consultation, design, planning and right up to project handover, very closely. What differentiate us from our competitors is that we “LISTEN” to our clients’ requirements and we propose a solution that best meets the job’s need. Before and after sales services are instrumental to our company’s good reputation in the market.”
Sharing about their proudest achievements as entrepreneurs, Mr Teng said with aplomb, “We are proud to share with you that we are the chosen service provider for the top 3 business consulting groups in the world, i.e. McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group and Bain & Company. These companies advise top corporations in the world to make good business decisions and, not one but, all three of them chose IBMS for their IT needs. That shows a lot about the ability of my company. From an initial manpower of just 2, our company has now grown to a workforce of over 100 and with offices in Singapore, Philippines and Bangladesh.”
“The company foresee much business opportunities in markets outside Singapore and will be actively pursuing our interest in primarily the Philippine and Bangladesh.” Mr Teng disclosed.
In the near future, the directors aim to expand further as well. “We foresee more business opportunities in the both the local and overseas markets. We have operations in the Philippine and Bangladesh and we are definitely looking in expansion in more countries to service our global clients,” Mr Low disclosed.
